Family Vacation Photos in Ireland

the easiest family photo session ever

I’m so glad that we get to spend some time creating memories of your time in Ireland and celebrating this part of your family’s story - one that’s full of moments, memories and adventures. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’ve seen that the photos I take are not all posed and proper, directed and scripted - they are full of real moments and so they are a little crazy, a little chaotic, and a whole lot of fun. And you’ve decided those are the kinds of photos you want of your family.

I’m so glad we found each other.

All you have to do is -

Relax. Be Yourselves.

I’ve got this.

Before the Session:

  • You’ll get an email with a link to your contract, session invoice, and a questionnaire - they all need to be completed by or before the day of our session.

  • I’ll send another email about a week before to set up a good time to chat and go over details.

  • A few days before the session I’ll confirm our date & time and adjust as needed (flexibility is key when traveling in Ireland).

Please text, email, message or phone me with any questions at all!

    TIPS

    • Bring layers, extra clothes if it rains, and especially an extra pair of dry socks

    • Wear sensible shoes - no heels or slippy soles. Rubber boots are great, especially for kids.

    • Eat first, even if it’s just a snack

    • Speaking of snacks, you may want to bring extra favourite snacks from home until you find something you (and the kids) love in Ireland.

On the Day

  • I’ll meet you wherever we’ve planned, from the door of your B&B to the steps of a ruin or the ocean cliffs.

  • You’ll know it’s me because I’ll have a big smile on my face and a camera in my hand.

  • We’ll chat for a bit to get to know each other and then we’ll get going!

  • At some point I’ll take out my camera and start taking pictures. I’ll be looking for moments, special details, all the pieces that tell your story.

  • I will not tell you what to do right away. Nope. Not a thing. I want you to explore together.

  • Oh, and have I mentioned that I talk a lot? Like, a lot? Before you know it you’ll totally forget I’m even taking pictures and we’ll just be friends hanging out together.

  • When everyone is feeling relaxed and only if you want, we’ll get together for some portraits. This is the main time I’ll tell you what to do, but I’ll try to keep it fun - I might play a game or ask you to cuddle or even run in circles. (Don’t worry about squirmy toddlers, fussy babies, and your wild child antics - I have some tricks up my sleeve for them.)

  • And after that, we’ll go back to just having fun documenting the wild ride that is real life.

My goal for your vacation photos is to have an adventure together and make a memory that becomes a highlight of your time here.

After the Session:

Your pictures will be available between 3-5 weeks after the session.

I usually include around 50 images/hour, but I only keep the very best - so there may be more or less.

You will get a link to your own personal online gallery where you can:

  • See all your pictures

  • Decide which ones you want to download

  • And choose which images you want to print.

You can order your prints, folio box, frame (and any other products) directly from your gallery. While you can download and print your photos yourself, I cannot guarantee the colours and quality of the prints if printed elsewhere.

What do we wear?

Easy Peasy Answer: Anything

My favourite pictures are the ones where I know my kids will recognise me - that means I’m probably wearing my comfy grey pants and baggy pink jumper.

I never know what my kids are going to be wearing, I’ve pretty given up altogether in that area.

So if I show up and your toddler is running around with just a nappy on, these are going to be beautiful pictures too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up being your favourites.

Perhaps a More Helpful Answer:

Still, we all want to look our best for those ‘family pictures’ so here are a few tips and tricks to help you out. The most important thing is to be comfortable - if you and your family feels comfortable, and able to move and be themselves, that shows and can make all the difference.

  • Favourite colours and tones - try not to be matchy matchy but find tones that compliment each other. Neutrals, earthy, pastels - whatever you love.

  • Solids: simplicity is usually best, especially on men and littles.

  • Textures: the more the merrier. Think linen, denim, wool, cotton. Layers are such fun to work with.

  • Fun prints: florals, stripes, polkadots can all be fun if they are an accent to the solids. Mamas especially look great in prints.

  • Avoid logos, graphics, words: unless Peppa Pig or a message on a shirt is an important memory, they can distract from the faces you love. (Neon and reflective elements are also distracting.)

  • Avoid pure blacks and solid whites: these colours tend to dominate an image and can be less aesthetically pleasing, especially in a framed picture. (Newborns are the exception, a white babygro on a newborn is simply scrumptious)

  • Be yourself. Ultimately, what you wear is part of who you are, the more “You” everyone looks, the more special the pictures will be in the future.

And really, it doesn’t matter what you wear

You are beautiful, just the way you are.

What do We Do With Our Pictures?

I think that there is one thing that makes a house feel like a home - pictures.

Which is why I have come up with LOTS of ideas for how to display your photos. They are no good sitting in a drawer or buried in a computer folder - they need to be seen and enjoyed and a part of your lives. I have everything from GORGEOUS quality framed art to cheap and cheerful DIYs.

Here are a couple of my favourite products and some pictures of what I’ve done in my home.

Folio Box with Matted Prints (my fav!) Ten 5”x7” matted silk prints in a gorgeous keepsake box. The mats are 8”x10” so they are frame-ready. (But I like to display them on their own too).

5x7 prints on clipboards - easy peasy and I get to swap them out as often as I want. These boards hold 8x10 prints as well, and even little surprise notes to the kids. They love when I do that.

I have so many photo books (more are in the basket behind me) and I keep them out and about. We all love to look through them. Unfortunately my cheap ones are falling apart - so now we make sure to get the good ones so that my grandkids can read our stories too.
