A family of 4, actually 6 - because it’s Twins!

Why do one thing at a time? That’s way too easy. Let’s combine a hike to a lake, a family session, and a twin maternity photo shoot all in one go!

Every once in a while you come across a person who makes your heart smile - you just “click”. It takes about 5 seconds for you to realise that you is them and they is you

I will always remember the first day I met Sarah, standing outside the school, waiting to collect our kids. We started talking, and didn’t really stop. We wandered vaguely towards her house and then stood across the road with her baby in the pram, mine wrapped up on my back, and our bigger kids pulling and moaning, “we’re HUNGRY”, “let’s GO”.

We did feed them.
Eventually.

That was when there was only four in the family.

Next memory.

I get a phone call asking if she can call in for a bit. She needs some time away from the kids, she says. If she has to make one more snack, she’ll go mad, she says. We didn’t even get past “hello” and she tells me she’s pregnant…

AND IT’S TWINS!

I don’t think we even stopped to make a cup of tea. We talked until midnight! And the one thing we both agreed upon (other than 3 kids under 4 years was complete madness) was that I had to take her maternity photos

Except there’s one thing… we like to do things the hard way. So rather than the two of us heading off into the woods alone…

We brought the whole family along.

And we are both so glad we did.

These pictures are a bookmark, a little pause to say, “this is what it looked like before” Before she got too big to move comfortably. Before the NICU. Before the triple bottles. Before the constant noise. Before the bigger car.

Before their hearts expanded to encompass two tiny bodies that changed the whole world forever.

So a quick story before you go…

This whole entire time, the toddler was dying to get INTO the water.

Poor Dad was completely occupied in keeping him safe and dry.

But I really really wanted to get a photo of just the two parents together.

So, I tucked the toddler under my arm and took this picture.

In a matter of seconds (just like they always say) the little guy wriggled out of my arm and…

RAN STRAIGHT INTO THE LAKE!

Luckily, there’s a fairly gentle slope, but… he’s pretty little.

His parents were up on the hill, a bit too far away to react fast enough and so I ran into the lake after him.

He got drenched.

I got drenched.

My camera got drenched.

But that didn’t stop him from heading right back in.

Life is an adventure with this family. And I am so there for it.
